BCG

BCG will let you talk technology. They will not let you skip the value pool.

Digital and AI cases at BCG still start with the client objective. BCG X is the build-and-design path. Generalists now get the same questions with less math on the model and more pressure on adoption.

Generalist BCG vs BCG X

BCG X (the home of what used to be Gamma) hires people who will design and ship. Expect a sharper technical case: data, model choice, experiment, product. The BCG X guide is the map for that loop.

A generalist BCG case that mentions AI is usually a strategy or operations case in costume. They want value, feasibility, adoption, and risk — the same four they want on a digital transformation prompt. Your job is to put ML words in those buckets instead of a slide titled “AI strategy.”

  • Value: hours, leakage, conversion, or risk, in $.
  • Feasibility: data you actually have, systems the model must sit in, who labels.
  • Adoption: the adjuster, the store manager, the call-center lead — not the CIO’s excitement.
  • Risk: hallucination, bias, write-access, a regulator who will ask “why did it pay?”

Casey is not the AI test

BCG Casey is a chatbot online case. It tests casing under a clock, not whether you can explain RAG. Treat Casey and the AI knowledge bar as two different rooms. You can fail one and still be fine at the other. You cannot skip either if both are on your process.

Independent practice. Not affiliated with BCG. The AI lesson and Clearclaim case are original CoachNed material.

A BCG-shaped opening

“I would clarify whether we are buying speed, cost, or quality. Then I would size the pool. Then I would ask what the model is allowed to do — draft, recommend, or act — because that is the risk step, not a later IT workstream.” That sentence is closer to what BCG wants than a list of model names.

FAQ

Will BCG ask me to pick a model vendor?

Rarely as the point of the case. They care whether you would prompt, retrieve, fine-tune, or agent, and whether a human still signs the payout.

Is the BCG Digital Strategy and AI Challenge a real interview?

Formats vary by office and recruiting season. Prepare the same muscle: objective, value, feasibility, adoption, risk. Our digital/AI challenge guide covers that shape.

Do I need BCG X prep if I applied generalist?

You need the literacy. You do not need a full ML design interview unless the recruiter said X, Gamma-style, or a technical case.
