How to use consulting case books

Seven school books people actually use. We do not host the PDFs. Here is how to get the reps out of them without drowning in unread pages.

School case books are useful. They are also how people waste a recruiting season: forty cases read, zero cases scored.

We list the seven books that show up in most clubs. We do not put the PDFs on this site. That would be hosting other people's copyrighted work. Get the official file from your career centre, consulting club, or library. Then come back here and run the case out loud.

If your club only has three of these, that is enough. You do not need all seven.

How to use a book without burning the season

  1. Pick one case. Not a chapter. One case.
  2. Time 25 minutes. Phone in the other room. Paper only.
  3. Write the close before you look at the teaching note: answer, two supports, one number, one risk.
  4. Then read the note. Grade yourself on structure, math, exhibits, and the close. Be rude.
  5. Run the matching CoachNed case the next morning, scored. That is the rep that sticks.

A book without a scored follow-up is a bedtime story.

What a teaching note is for

The note is a map, not a script. Steal:

  • The decision metric they actually wanted
  • The exhibit that hid the driver
  • The math they expected you to set up

Do not steal:

  • The prose
  • The "insight" sentence you will recite
  • A framework name

If your close sounds like the note, you will freeze when the interviewer takes a different branch.

A four-week plan

Week 1. Two profitability cases from Wharton or Booth. After each, run EV Charging or GreenBite scored.

Week 2. One market entry and one M&A from INSEAD or Columbia. Then Solara or HarborHealth.

Week 3. One ops case from Ross. Then Titan or TravelLine. Add a PEI story night.

Week 4. One HBS narrative (read, do not perform). Then a full Voice case. Stop collecting books.

Common ways people fake progress

  • Highlighting 12 cases and calling it prep
  • Reading the note first "just to see the structure"
  • Doing cases with a friend who is nicer than an interviewer
  • Switching books every weekend because this one "feels outdated"

Pick a book. Pick a clock. Then get scored.

After the book

The library here is original practice, not a scan of school PDFs. 63 cases, all voice-ready. First scored run is free.
