Drill room
Math drill
Equation first. Then units. Then the so-what.
The room is a clock, a prompt, and a score. The method below is what Ned grades. Free accounts get a daily window.
How to structure it
- Equation. Write profit = revenue − COGS − opex, or units = fixed / contribution, before any digit.
- Units. Say $m versus $. Percent versus points.
- Compute. One or two significant figures. The path is the grade, not the eighth digit.
- So-what. Which side of the decision flipped? Stop on the implication.
Base operating profit is 107 − 58 − 23 = $26m. Cut price 4% and lift volume 8%: revenue about $110.9m, COGS $62.6m, profit $25.3m. The broad promo destroys about $0.7m. Target trade spend.
Usual miss. A correct number with no implication. That scores like a calculator.
