Where AI sits in a Bain process

Bain still runs a case and a fit / behavioral. SOVA is the online numerical screen for many offices — it is not an AI exam. The AI layer shows up in the case when the client story is automation, personalization, a copilot, or “our competitor just announced gen AI.”

If you are applying into Analytics, Data & Research or Technology & Engineering under the Vector umbrella, read the Vector guide. You will get more technical depth. If you are a generalist, you still need the simple version: training vs inference, RAG vs fine-tune, agent vs chatbot, error cost.

  • Bain likes a crisp recommendation. Do not tour the technology.
  • They like practical implementation: who changes behavior on Monday.
  • They like results. Attach a metric and a time box to the pilot.

What to practice

One lesson on how the technology works. One case where the math is handle-cost versus leakage, not a neural-net derivation. That is enough for a generalist Bain first round. If your recruiter named a take-home or a technical screen, add the data science guide.
