Assume you have twelve weeks until first rounds and $400 you are willing to spend. Three common stacks:

Stack C is still over a tight $400, so cut to Sprint + PrepLounge ($189) and book the coach hour only after three identical debriefs name the same leak. That is the point of the math: cost per useful feedback, not cost per login.
Work the unit yourself. Suppose you sit 24 full cases in 90 days on Sprint and get a seven-dimension debrief each time. Cash cost $120. Cost per scored case: $120 / 24 = $5. One Management Consulted coaching hour at $350 is seventy scored AI cases at that rate — or one hour with a human who can watch you take a hint. Both can be rational. Buying both every week is not.
Ned's rule. Buy tools in the order the sheet grades you: one scored full case first, then drills for the named leak, then peers for presence, then one expensive human when interviews are real. Never reverse that order because a classmate has a discount code.
Where peer practice lies to you
PrepLounge's own Premium page is clear about the product: unlimited mock interviews with peers, a large case library, and a recommendation to solve "at least 30 full cases with an experienced case partner." That is honest marketing for a marketplace. The failure mode is not PrepLounge. It is treating peer feedback as a scoring sheet.
Typical peer debrief: "Your structure was fine, math was a bit slow, good presence." Typical partner sheet: structure MECE but wrong driver; math setup had a unit error; synthesis had no recommendation. Those are different documents. I have watched candidates improve at sounding confident while the same MECE gap survived twenty peer cases.
Fix: write a one-page rubric before every peer meeting (structure, math, chart, synthesis, presence — each 1–5). Score each other with numbers. If neither of you can explain a "3," you are not ready to coach each other yet. Pair PrepLounge with a product that already returns a stable score, then use peers for presence and stamina.
Assessment gates are not casing tools
Online assessments (McKinsey Solve-style games, BCG Casey chatbot, Bain SOVA-style tests, CCA numericals) kill candidates who spent eight weeks only casing with friends. The skills overlap with cases, but the format does not: fixed clocks, forward-only questions, no interviewer to rescue you.
If your invite email names an assessment, that week belongs to a simulator, not to another peer case. ChatGPT is free volume with no interviewer behavior unless you force it. It is useful for brainstorms and math checks. It is not a row in the table above because it is not a consulting product with a published scoring sheet.

Frequently asked questions
Can one case interview tool do everything?
No. Peers, drills, curriculum, AI-scored spoken cases, and human coaches solve different jobs. Pick the missing job first; a second product only if that job is still empty after two weeks.
Should I subscribe to PrepLounge and RocketBlocks and a coach at once?
Almost never. A sensible ceiling is two paid products: one for scored volume or drills, one for humans (peers or a coach). Add a third only when the next gate is an assessment your stack does not cover.

On-ramps. Read or watch until you can open a case without freezing, then stop consuming and start scoring reps. Content without a debrief is how candidates feel prepared and still miss the sheet.
