How recruiting actually feels at LBS
It feels like London is already the job. You can meet consultants without a flight. That density is the product. It is also how people fill every evening with a City drinks event and still under-drill. The class is large enough that club volume is easy and average mocks are common.
Length is the strategic choice. A longer path can include a summer internship as the main consulting gate, closer to a US two-year rhythm. A shorter path looks more like a European one-year: full-time recruiting has to be the plan, and you cannot treat "I'll case after internship recruiting" as a strategy. Confirm the current length options and internship rules on the LBS site; do not copy a classmate's calendar until you know how many months they chose.
UK work authorization (including whatever visa route applies to you in the year you graduate) should sit on the same page as office preference. A London offer is not a US OPT conversation. Ask Career Centre and the firm; do not infer from Slack.
How to use the LBS consulting club without under-drilling
The club will over-serve events.
- Cap coffees. Two with an office and staffing thesis beat eight unstructured City chats.
- Force McKinsey interviewer-led and candidate-led in the same week. London first rounds are not one format.
- Practice the close in commercial English. International students sometimes under-close; native speakers sometimes over-narrate.
- Keep PEI short. LBS students collect impressive international stories that run long.
When the calendar is full of firm presentations, scored cases are the hour you would have spent on a third networking drink.
Four weeks that depend on 15 versus 21 months

If you are on an internship path (typically the longer MBA)
Week 1 — Internship-gate math and close. Daily short cases. Grade the recommendation. Write three PEI stories that are not "I live in London."
Week 2 — Density diet. Cut unstructured events. Interviewer-led every other day. One office conversation with a practice thesis (financial services, PE diligence, public sector, generalist).
Week 3 — Application week. Deadlines over extra coffees. Two cases on a day you also have a firm event. Sleep.
Week 4 — Superday rehearsal. Case, PEI, case. You are simulating a London first-round, not a campus club night.
If you are on an accelerated path (no summer internship as the main gate)
Week 1 — Full-time from day one. Same skills, earlier panic. Do not wait for "when the 21-month people start." Fundamentals and PEI in week one of term if you have not prepped.
Week 2 — Format split and visa questions. Interviewer-led and candidate-led. Book a Career Centre conversation about work authorization so it is not a surprise in offer week.
Week 3 — Full-time applications. Treat this as the only shot, not a backup to an internship you skipped.
