Bain's 2026 US campus story is the cleanest of the three MBB pages to tell, because two numbers are posted in public and a third is the one candidates argue about. Associate Consultant base is $112,000. MBA Consultant base is $192,000. Year-1 totals are quoted as high as ~$285,000 — the highest public bonus ceiling in MBB.
The firm does not publish a full scale. Internship monthly bases are the exception: Bain has posted them.
Last full pass: 24 August 2026.
Titles, before the money
Bain's undergraduate hire is Associate Consultant (AC). The MBA / experienced hire is Consultant. That maps to McKinsey Business Analyst → Associate, and to BCG Associate → Consultant.
If a thread says "Bain Associates make $192K," they are mixing Bain's AC with McKinsey's Associate. Same word family. Different jobs.
Typical generalist spine: Associate Consultant → Consultant → Case Team Leader → Manager → Principal → Partner. Office language varies slightly. The work does not.
The 2026 US snapshot
| Level | Typical US base | Typical first-year / reported total | How public |
|---|---|---|---|
| Associate Consultant (undergrad) | $112,000 | Mid-$100s with signing and first-year extras | Strong. Campus-posted. |
| Consultant (MBA) | $192,000 | Up to ~$285,000 year-1 in strong-bonus tellings | Strong on base. Total is the ceiling, not the median. |
| Case Team Leader / Manager | Not a single posted number | Steps up from Consultant | Crowdsourced. |
| Principal / Partner | Not posted | Partnership economics | Weak. |

The $285,000 year-1 figure is a ceiling in the public conversation, not a median offer. It assumes a strong bonus year and a signing number that actually lands in the first twelve months. A quieter year-1 on the same $192,000 base will look more like the McKinsey/BCG cluster in the mid-$240s to high-$260s.
Associate Consultant: $112K
US AC base is $112,000. That is the same cohort as McKinsey BA ($112,000) and BCG Associate ($110,000–$115,000). Bain is not "the cheap MBB" at undergrad and "the rich MBB" at MBA. It is the same campus market with a different bonus story two degrees later.
The job is the first two to three years on a case team: analysis, slides, a module, the up-or-out clock. The Bain internships page is the earlier version of this seat.
Consultant: $192K base, and why $285K gets quoted
US MBA base is $192,000 — the same posted base as McKinsey Associate, $2,000 above BCG Consultant.
The $285,000 year-1 number is Bain's public reputation: the highest bonus ceiling of the three. It is not a guarantee and it is not what every first-year Consultant takes home. It is what a strong-bonus, full-extras year-1 can look like when candidates stack the letter.
Compare definitions, not vibes:
| Firm | MBA / post-grad title | US base (2026) | Year-1 totals in the public record |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bain | Consultant | $192,000 | Up to ~$285,000 (ceiling) |
| McKinsey | Associate | $192,000 | ~$245,000 run-rate to ~$267,600 first-year cash |
| BCG | Consultant | $190,000 | ~$237,500–$270,000 |

If you are choosing among three MBB offers, the base will not decide it. Office, staffer, travel model, and whether you want Bain's case style will. If you are choosing Bain against Deloitte, Kearney, or L.E.K., the year-1 cash might.
Internships: the numbers Bain actually posted
This is the rare MBB compensation line that is not crowdsourced.
2026 US internship postings (monthly base, not total package):
| Program | Posted monthly base | Rough full-summer cash if you only count base |
|---|---|---|
| Associate Consultant Intern (ACI) | ~$9,000 / month | A 10-week summer is ~$20,000+ before extras |
| Summer Associate (post-grad / MBA) | ~$16,000 / month | A 10-week summer is ~$36,000+ before extras |
Those are posted monthly bases from Bain's 2026 US internship listings, documented on Bain internships. Housing, signing, and return offers sit on top. Do not annualize $16,000 × 12 and call it a full-time offer. The full-time Consultant number is $192,000.
If you are an intern deciding whether to return: the conversion is the career decision. The monthly number is the summer.
How a Bain MBA year-1 is built
| Line | Illustrative US Consultant year-1 | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Base | $192,000 | The stable campus number. |
| Signing (into year 1) | $25,000–$50,000 | Clawback windows of 12–24 months are normal. |
| First-year bonus | The swing line | This is where the "$285K" telling lives or dies. |
| Relocation / start extras | $5,000–$15,000 | One-time. |
| Year-1 cash | Mid-$240s to ~$285,000 | Ceiling ≠ typical. Ask what the office did last year. |
A Deloitte MBA package in the same cycle often lands near $136,500. That gap is the one that is real. Bain vs McKinsey on base is zero.
What does not move
Campus base is fixed. You will not talk $192,000 to $205,000 on a US undergrad or MBA offer. You might talk signing, start date, office, and — experienced hire — level.
Bain already knows McKinsey and BCG's campus numbers. "Match my other MBB" is not new information. Offer negotiation is the page for what to ask instead.
Cities and tax
US campus base is cohort-standard. New York and Chicago ACs are not on different published bases. Rent is. London is a sterling band, not $192,000 × GBP. Dubai and Singapore are different tax and different currencies — salary by city, Dubai firms.
How to use this this cycle
- AC vs Consultant. Write the title down before you open a spreadsheet.
- Treat $285K as a ceiling. Ask your offer contact what last year's first-years actually received in that office.
- Put Bain next to McKinsey, BCG, Oliver Wyman, L.E.K., and Deloitte in the salary report PDF.
- If you are still interviewing, Bain case interview decides whether this table ever applies to you.
