BCG's public 2026 US picture is a $190,000 MBA base, a first-year package that candidates quote anywhere from the mid-$230s to $270,000, and an undergrad Associate band around $110,000–$115,000. The firm does not publish a scale. These are campus-posted bases, crowdsourced totals, and the ranges that sit in our 2026 salary report.
Last full pass: 24 August 2026.
The title trap, before any number
BCG Associate is the undergraduate hire. BCG Consultant is the MBA / experienced hire.
McKinsey uses Associate for the post-MBA job. If you paste "Associate salary" into a spreadsheet and compare BCG to McKinsey, you are comparing a 22-year-old to a 28-year-old and calling it a firm gap. It is a vocabulary gap.
BCG's generalist ladder:
Associate → Consultant → Project Leader → Principal → Partner → Managing Director and Partner (MDP).
Read BCG levels and hierarchy before you negotiate a title you do not hold.
The 2026 US snapshot
| Level | Typical US base | Typical first-year / reported total | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Associate (undergrad) | ~$110,000–$115,000 | Mid-$100s once signing and first-year extras land | Same cohort conversation as McKinsey BA ~$112K and Bain AC $112K. |
| Consultant (MBA / experienced) | $190,000 | ~$237,500–$270,000 year-1 | Base is $2,000 under McKinsey/Bain's $192K. Year-1 total overlaps. |
| Project Leader | Not a single posted number | Steps up from Consultant; crowdsourced | First real people-management seat. |
| Principal | Not posted | Partnership-track; wide range | Origination starts to matter. |
| Partner / MDP | Not posted | Private partnership | Do not use campus math here. |

Associate: the $115K undergrad number
US Associate base sits around $110,000–$115,000 in 2026. That is the same conversation as McKinsey Business Analyst (~$112,000) and Bain Associate Consultant ($112,000). The title is different. The cohort is the same.
What the job is: analysis, slides, a owned slice of a case team, two to three years, then promotion to Consultant, an MBA, or an exit. What it is not: the $190,000 MBA job with a different name.
If a recruiter or a Reddit thread says "BCG Associates make $190K," they are using McKinsey's dictionary. Ask which office and which degree.
Consultant: $190K base, $237K–$270K year-1
US MBA base is $190,000. That is the number that is actually stable. Year-1 total is the argument:
- A tight reading of base + a standard first-year bonus + signing amortized into year 1 often lands near $237,500.
- Candidates and some aggregators quote ~$270,000 when relocation, a stronger bonus year, and every first-year extra are stacked the way they hit the bank.
The salary report walks the BCG vs Deloitte MBA offer math explicitly: a BCG year-1 package in the mid-to-high $200s against a Deloitte MBA package near $136,500. That is the comparison that changes a decision. BCG vs McKinsey on base is $2,000.
McKinsey Associate base is $192,000. Bain MBA Consultant base is $192,000. BCG is a rounding error below both on base and inside the same band on year-1 cash. Do not pick a firm over $2,000. Pick it over the case style, the office, the PEI vs experience interview, and whether you want BCG's staffer model.
How a BCG MBA year-1 is built
| Line | Illustrative US Consultant year-1 | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Base | $190,000 | The posted / widely confirmed campus number. |
| Signing (into year 1) | $20,000–$45,000 | Clawbacks are normal. Read the letter. |
| First-year bonus | $20,000–$40,000 | Firm year and performance. |
| Relocation / start extras | $5,000–$15,000 | One-time. |
| Year-1 cash | ~$237,000–$270,000 | Pick a definition before you compare firms. |
Bain's public bonus ceiling is the highest of the three on a $192,000 base (year-1 totals quoted up to ~$285,000). McKinsey's year-1 Associate package is quoted at $245,000–$267,600 depending on whether you use run-rate or first-year cash. BCG sits in the middle of that cluster. Details: McKinsey salary, Bain salary.
Project Leader, Principal, Partner
Project Leader is BCG's first seat where you run the team, not a module. Public bases are not posted the way campus Consultant is. Treat crowdsourced PL numbers as directional.
Principal is the partnership-track role where origination starts to compete with delivery. Partner and MDP are partnership economics, not a salary band. If you want the long version of "what does the next title actually do," use BCG levels, not a pay table.
Office, city, and the thing BCG does not do
US campus base is cohort-standard. A BCG Consultant in New York and a BCG Consultant in Dallas are not on different published bases the way a Big 4 office often is. Cost of living is. The salary by city page is the geographic overlay.
London BCG packages are in sterling bands, not a FX translation of $190,000. Dubai BCG Associate total has been reported near AED 393,000, with office medians around AED 500,000 and no personal income tax — see consulting firms in Dubai. Singapore MBB post-graduate totals are reported near SGD 197,000–277,000.
L.E.K. is the useful contrast on geography: their 2026 US H-1B filings showed a $185,000 Consultant base flat across offices. BCG's campus number is similarly flat by city; L.E.K.'s filing is the rare case where that flatness is in a government document. L.E.K. salary.
What you can negotiate
Campus base is fixed. The conversation that sometimes moves is signing, start date, office, and — for experienced hires — level. Level is the only line that still matters in year 3.
Do not bluff a competing MBB offer. BCG already knows McKinsey and Bain's campus numbers. The offer negotiation page is the playbook. The salary report PDF is the worksheet.
How to use this this cycle
- Write down the BCG title you are actually in process for. Associate and Consultant are different jobs.
- Compare BCG's $190K base to McKinsey/Bain $192K as a tie, not a decision.
- Compare year-1 cash to Deloitte, PwC, Kearney, Oliver Wyman, and L.E.K. on the same definitions — that is where the money diverges.
- If you still have interviews, BCG case interview and Casey matter more than this table.
