Consulting Application Deadlines 2026: A Planning System, Not a Fake Calendar

How to plan consulting applications in 2026 using typical seasonal windows — US undergrad late summer, MBA August–October, internships earlier — then confirm every date on the firm careers page.

UpdatedReviewed by Ned

A blog table of 40 “exact 2026 dates” is usually fiction by the time you click it. Firms change windows by office, school, and visa. McKinsey’s US undergrad close is not Bain’s London MBA close. This page is a planning system: typical seasonal windows, what rolling actually means, and how to keep a tracker that does not lie to you. Confirm every live date on the firm’s careers page. If you want a sheet to log those dates, use the recruiting deadlines calendar.

For how to get in, see how to get into consulting (all tiers) and how to get into MBB (MBB-only funnel). This page is only timing.

The only dates that count are on the careers page

Treat any third-party deadline as a rumor until you open the posting for your program: office, undergrad vs MBA vs experienced hire, internship vs full-time, US vs other country. Screenshot the close date. Put it in a tracker with a link. Recheck the week applications open, because windows move.

Campus recruiting adds a second clock. Your school’s handshake / 12twenty listing can close earlier than the national portal. If you are on-cycle, the career-office date wins.

Typical seasonal windows (not a 2026 day calendar)

These are patterns, not appointments. They describe US-heavy campus recruiting. European, APAC, and experienced-hire cycles do not follow them.

US undergraduate and master’s — many MBB full-time cycles. Applications often open in early summer and cluster toward late summer closes. Several firms still run more than one round. Internship recruiting for the following summer has, in recent cycles, sat earlier than full-time — sometimes in spring — so juniors who wait for “fall recruiting” miss the intern seat that converts to the return offer.

MBA. Many US MBB and strategy-firm applications open in August and close September–October, with first rounds in the fall and offers into winter. First-year MBA internships and second-year full-time are different postings. Do not submit the intern form for a full-time seat. See the MBA recruiting timeline.

Internships in general. Intern postings frequently open before the matching full-time class. Early-insight and diversity programs (Discovery, BASE-style, sophomore immersions) sit on yet another calendar, often winter–spring. Deloitte Discovery is not the junior summer internship.

Big 4, boutiques, and experienced hire. Often rolling. Rolling does not mean “always open.” It means they score and fill as packets arrive. Applying in week six of an open window is not the same as applying in week one.

Advanced-degree (JD / MD / PhD) and experienced hire. Frequently off the undergrad clock. Some firms run a winter–spring intern or “bridge” path. Read the posting, not an undergrad spreadsheet.

If how to get into MBB cites a mid-July BCG or mid-August McKinsey undergrad pattern for a given cycle, treat that as a historical cluster, then verify the current posting. Do not copy those months onto Oliver Wyman or Deloitte.

Build a deadline system in one hour

Open a sheet with these columns. Nothing else is required.

ColumnWhat you put
Firm / entityMcKinsey vs BCG; Deloitte vs Monitor; PwC vs Strategy&
OfficeThe office on the application, not “anywhere”
ProgramIntern, full-time, Discovery, experienced hire
Portal URLDirect link to the live posting
OpenedDate you first saw it live
Close (posted)Exact text from the page, including time zone
RecheckA calendar reminder a few days after open, and again a week before close
MaterialsResume, transcript, test, cover letter, referral name
StatusNot started / submitted / assessment / interview / closed

Add a hard personal cutoff two to three days before the posted close. Portals jam. Transcripts lag. Referrals need a human to click.

Put tests on the same tracker. An application is not done when you hit submit. Solve, Casey, Sova, HireVue, and numerical tests have their own expiry. Missing a 7-day test invite is a silent reject.

Rolling versus hard close — how to behave

Hard close. One timestamp. After it, the portal dies. Front-load: resume locked, stories drafted, referral asked before the last 48 hours.

Rolling. They interview while you polish. Your risk is a filled class, not a locked form. Apply when the packet is honest, not when it is perfect. A referred packet in week two beats a perfect packet in week eight.

Multi-round / multi-office. Some firms reopen. That is not a second chance at the same evaluation in every office. Read whether a reject locks you out of other offices for the cycle. When in doubt, ask the recruiter in one sentence.

School-specific. Target-school lists often have their own info-session and application windows. Non-target candidates live on the national portal. Do not use a friend’s Wharton date for a state-school application.

Sequence firms so you are not late twice

Work backward from the earliest window on your list, not the average.

  1. If any MBB undergrad intern or full-time window sits in summer, that date sets your resume freeze and your first case-prep block. See the undergrad recruiting guide.
  2. MBA candidates freeze materials before August so August–October is submission, not drafting. MBA timeline.
  3. Big 4 rolling seats can be filled while you wait on MBB. Apply in parallel if you would take the seat.
  4. Early programs (Discovery, sophomore immersions) belong on the tracker in winter if you are a first- or second-year.

Networking has its own lead time. Cold email in the week of the deadline does not produce a referral. Start outreach weeks to months before the window, using the networking guide and email templates.

Interview prep is a third clock. The prep timeline is skills. This page is submissions. Do not confuse them.

What this page will not do

It will not invent a 1 August McKinsey date, a 15 July BCG date, or a 40-firm table that pretends to be current. Those tables go stale and they train you to skip the careers page.

It will not publish acceptance rates. Selectivity for MBB is discussed in how to get into MBB (under 1% globally, with sources). Other firms do not get made-up percentages here.

When an offer lands, timing of signing and start date is offer negotiation, not this tracker.

Weekly operating cadence in season

  • Monday: open every saved URL; note any changed close date.
  • Wednesday: one submission or one assessment, not five half-done portals.
  • Friday: referral status — who has the resume, who has not clicked.
  • Anytime a recruiter emails a test: log the expiry the same hour.

If you miss a close, do not ghost the rest of the list. Move. Some firms still have later rounds, other offices, or next cycle. Reapplying after rejection is a different problem from missing a form.

Confirm dates. Track them. Apply when the packet is real. That is the 2026 deadline skill.
