How recruiting actually feels at IE
It feels fast and optional. Entrepreneurship showcases, tech talks, and a flexible identity can make consulting look like something you will "add later." Later is after the first burst. Madrid has real consulting offices. They will not wait for you to finish a venture project.
Language matters. Some processes will run in English; some Spanish offices will test Spanish. Do not assume IE's English-taught MBA means every interview is English. Ask. Compared with IESE, IE is often more compact and more "Madrid international school" than "Barcelona bilingual two-track MBA." Use that as logistics, not as a ranking argument.
Work authorization in Spain is a workstream from week one if you are not an EU citizen. Confirm with Talent & Careers; do not copy an IESE classmate's visa story. Madrid office density is real, but it is not London. If your first-choice office is outside Spain, say so in week one and batch the trip. If your first-choice is Madrid, practice like the office is already in the city — because it is — and stop treating "getting in front of firms" as the scarce skill.
How to use the IE consulting club without under-drilling
The club may be smaller or less dominant than at a consulting-heavy school. That is a reason to start scored volume immediately, not a reason to wait for a US-style OCR machine.
- Book mocks in the first two weeks, not after "things settle."
- Mix McKinsey interviewer-led and candidate-led.
- Use Madrid alumni for office thesis (Spain versus London versus Latin America). Cap coffees.
- Practice PEI that is not only a founder story. Entrepreneurship is fine; a case still needs a close.

Four weeks from arrival, not from year two
This block is the first month of the program (or the month before, if you can). There is no "next fall." Use the 2026 deadlines list as soon as you have target firms. The MBA consulting recruiting timeline is a two-year US map; compress it.
Week 1 — Decide. One page: consulting versus founder/tech, target city, interview language. Daily math. First full case by the end of the week. If you are still "exploring" at the end of week 1, you are already late for a short MBA. A venture showcase is not a substitute for a recommendation.
Week 2 — Format and Spanish/English. Alternate interviewer-led and candidate-led. One PEI in the interview language. One Madrid coffee with a staffing thesis. If the PEI is only a founder origin story, add a conflict with a person, not only with a market.
Week 3 — Applications and a trip cap. If you need London, batch it. Do not collect cities. Cases on event days.
